...I have also home-schooled (Laurel Springs and University of Oklahoma programs) and tutored several students in this subject since 1998 I taught pre-**algebra** at Mulholland Middle School in Van Nuys. I have also taught pre-**algebra** for the Johns Hopkins AIIY program for gifted youth. I have also taught this subject for several other program, as well as having tutored in the subject since 1994.

...I gauge where the student is at in knowing the concepts by having him/her work out the problems. Every problem has two parts: the first is recognizing what kind of problem it is (e.g. quadratic equation) and the second is the mechanics of working it out (e.g. arithmetic skills, factoring, quadratic formula). I have been tutoring since I was in high school myself. I keep it simple and fun!

I use various methods of instruction and often include activity based learning processes.

...In addition, I am ESL trained and can help those students whose reading difficulty is a second language issue. Experienced college writing teacher; familiar with APA and MLA; proofreading/editing; dissertation work considered "I'm no good at math" isn't true! All students "get it" and love it with a little one-on-one help!
