...I took German in college and then lived in Germany for 1.5 years. During that time, I mostly hung out with Germans and spoke German, unlike most Americans who study abroad and hang out with other Americans and mostly speak English. When I went to Germany, my German was the weakest of the 20 students in my program; but after 6 months, I spoke better German than they did.
