...I use Notice and Note, Strategies for Close Reading, as a primary guide, as well as strategies from a variety of other sources. The first rule of proofreading is that you cannot always rely on spell check. Students who do so will write "defiantly" when they mean "definitely." :) As students gain more confidence with their grammar, many actually enjoy proofreading.
