Typically, algebra includes learning about the different kinds of numbers, learning how to write expressions and equations, and then learning to solve those equations. It's also when the infamous "word problem" gets introduced.

...I have had success preparing students for the ASVAB, and I especially enjoy helping them tackle the word problems on the Arithmetic Reasoning section. Time management is important, and test-taking strategies are key. When I taught at a Catholic middle school, I helped eighth-graders prepare for these tests.
