...I have no issue with someone who is only interested in "tourist Spanish." That is, only learning what to say in certain situations. This approach, however, does not create a foundation so that the student is able to progress very far. In my opinion, if someone is serious about learning Spanish, then it is necessary to have a good understanding of Spanish grammar.
