I'm a teacher assistant in a program within the school of about 25 students, many of whom have autism, learning disabilities, or Down Syndrome. Whatever each one's particular situation and level of functioning may be, I have really enjoyed working with them and helping them succeed.

...After teaching a college level class called Critical thinking and problem solving, I realized that many of the skills we worked on involved time management and study skills. Working with special education students over the years, that was one of our major issues: how to study. So, the experience I have is very diverse from 1st grade through College students.

...Also, I can help students who need help in other subjects, such as: natural science and mathematics at any elementary or high school level. I have a bachelor's degree in geology, and I was a foreman on a mining team exploring for gold and silver in Mexico for 5 years. I am finished with the Spanish certification program at Chicago State University.

...I feel that I am a very patient tutor, and can greatly help children learn material that they are struggling in. I do not give them the answers, but rather push them in the right direction, and make sure that it sticks with follow-up questions. I am also a fun person that can make learning enjoyable for anyone, usually through metaphors that will resonate with children.

...Additionally, I studied abroad one semester in Morocco in an Arabic language and culture immersion program. I believe I can be very helpful in teaching Arabic. I feel very qualified to teach elementary subjects (k-6th) because of my prior experience.
