...Time should be spent on memorization of basic facts. Then practice needs to occur, a lot of practice. . . Students often need a new explanation, a different way of looking at the problem, or to draw out a picture of the problem. I have taught elementary school mathematics for many years and hold a lifetime teacher's certificate.
