I generally try to give a student guidance on the material that is being learned and then slowly back off little by little until the student is doing the work on his/her own without any assistance. I am proficient in all high school math, science, and physics material.

...Then they need lots and lots of practice. Each daily topic fits into the big picture of Algebra or of Geometry, and students need to see that big picture as well. If they take each lesson as a separate entity, it doesn't make sense.
