...When I tutor kindergartners (mostly in reading) we play word and sound games as well as read books. For older students I provide a positive atmosphere where we can work though problems, go over concepts, and review vocabulary. Considering that I have taught college level science, I have a very fair rate.
...I have read chess books (my favorite being My System by Aaron Nimzovich) and studied positions and I also have played 5-minute chess. I approach the game as a fun, learning, and combinatoric exercise. I don't like to feel crushed when I lose or feel like a jerk when I win.
