...So much of Math is an application of functions and a good knowledge of Algebra will serve you well and provide an excellent foundation if you go on to take Trigonometry, Precalculus and Calculus. Today, for obvious safety reasons, fewer chemical experiments involving reactions are taught in the lab class. Much more of the work is theoretical.

Of course, a big part of programming is learning the syntax of the Excel and/or Matlab functions.
