...Generally, this means the methods students learned the first time around, i.e. in Algebra 1, were probably not the best problem solving techniques for them. The other issue usually arises with one of the "new" concepts, e.g. conic sections, sequences/series, or logarithms. With these, most students panic because the concepts seem so foreign and new.
