...I think rote learning is very valuable, however, I encourage my students to find the definition within the word. By associating their new vocabulary word with a familiar synonym or mental image the new word reminds them of, it greatly facilitates the memorization process. I also like to have my student print out an image and cut it out and tape it next to the definition.
